Electra/Persona description
Electra / Persona is a new play by Benedict Andrews, inspired by Sophocles and Ingmar Bergman
In Electra / Persona we meet Electra, a daughter whose grief and fury is all-consuming. As her world disintegrates she clings desperately to the notion of justice. In Persona, inspired by Bergman's 1966 film, we meet an actress whose voice unexpectedly falls silent during a performance of Electra. A dramatic rupture in reality sees the women pulled into an intense, unsettling encounter where speech fails and the boundaries between reality and acting melt away. The original score comes from the Academy Award-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir.
Starring the wonderful national treasure Cate Blanchett (The Seagull), the equally brilliant Nina Hoss (The Cherry Orchard), and the remarkable Ella Lily Hyland (Black Doves), this thrilling drama by Benedict Andrews (A Streetcar Named Desire) blends ancient myth and modern psychology to create a compelling exploration of identity, deftly examining the fragile place where 'who we are' and 'who we play' clash.
Set Designer Magda Willi, Costume Designer Merle Hensel, Lighting Designer Jon Clark and Video Designer Ash J Woodward join forces in a superb creative team, along with Casting Director Alastair Coomer CDG, Voice Coach Cathleen McCarron, Associate Director Danica Selem and Music Associate Deanna H. Choi. Together they make magic happen. It's pure class. Expect amazing.
