ear for eye description

The somewhat cryptically titled ear for eye is a cry against ingrained racism. Society tries to change but fails time and time again. But we have lost patience, the times have moved on and we haven’t. Our efforts to progress aren’t enough anymore. It’s time to change, because it’s going to happen whether we want it or not, whether we’re ready or not. debbie tucker green, an individual who rallies against capitalisation, both writes and directs this new work.

ear for eye is not the first work from debbie tucker green at the Royal Court. Last year she brought a profoundly affectionate, passionate devotion to someone (-noun) and broke down the barriers of theatrical language with natural dialogue and a steady rhythmic metre. She has been writing since 2000 and bringing work to this venue since 2005, so is well established as a profoundly affecting writer in a theatre that has championed playwrights from Simon Stephens to Jez Butterworth to Martin McDonagh. All three are Olivier Award-winning playwrights, the latter is also a Golden Globe and BAFTA winner for his latest screenplay Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. debbie tucker green herself is a Olivier Award winner, taking the nod for Most Promising Newcomer in 2004 – in the past, this award has been given to Kenneth Branagh.

Royal Court Artistic Director Vicky Featherstone was recently named as No. 1 on The Stage’s 2017 list of the most influential theatre makers and individuals. She catapulted herself forwarded after so vehemently speaking out in the wake of the sexual harassment scandal that has swept the industry. Her other recent work includes directing Our Ladies Of Perpetual Succour and programming The Ferryman.
