Dracula: A Comedy of Terrors description
Prepare for a UK premiere like no other! The scene is the craggy mountains of Transylvania, where a meek English estate agent takes a terrifying trip to meet a new client who turns out to be Count Dracula himself. Comedy madness ensues as the famous vampire hunter Jean Van Helsing and co. chase the monster across Europe. Welcome to Dracula, A Comedy of Terrors.
An evilly funny, gender-bending take on the classic horror story
This is Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen’s fresh new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s iconic horror novel, given the comedy treatment with oodles of camp gothic humour. As the hunters follow Dracula from Transylvania to the British countryside, then onwards to London, you'll find yourself screaming with laughter at their gender-bending antics. But this is no ordinary Dracula. The Count might be an evil vampire but he's also a narcissist caught in a fierce battle with an existential crisis of his own making.
Five actors create brilliant on-stage chaos
The cast of five switch between multiple roles throughout the production, adding extra impact to an already fast and furious show. James Daly (Letterkenny, Saving Hope, Wendy and Peter Pan, La Cage au Folles) reprises the role of Dracula, with Safeena Ladha (The 39 Steps) as Lucy Westfeldt, Dianne Pilkington (Sweeney Todd, Les Miserables, Tess) as Dr Westfeldt, and Charlie Stemp (Half a Sixpence, Hello Dolly, Mary Poppins) as Jonathan Harker.
Written by Gordon Greenberg and Steve Rosen, the Director is Gordon Greenberg (The Baker’s Wife, Barnum), the Set Design is by Tijana Bjelajac, the Costume Design is by Tristan Raines, the Lighting Design is Ben Cracknell, and the Sound Design is by Yvonne Gilbert. The fun is presented in association with Drew & Dane Productions.
