Shakespeare's Globe Theatre has announced two new productions for their winter 2026 season at the candlelit Sam Wanamaker Playhouse, a little slice of theatre magic. Deep Azure is the second, following on from The Tempest, the UK premiere of a play written by the Academy Award-nominated actor and writer. It has attracted considerable critical attention in the USA since 2005; now it's in London.

In case you don't already know, Chadwick Boseman was a highly respected US American actor best known for his role as T'Challa in Marvel's Black Panther. He died in 2020. Directed by Tristan Fynn-Aiduenu (For Black Boys…), this is the last play Boseman wrote.

The action follows Azure, a young Black woman with an eating disorder, as she struggles to survive her fiance's Deep's death. Killed by the police, spiritual Deep has left a lasting impression on Azure and his friends Roshad and Tone, who support Azure as her world spins out of control. They're searching for peace in the wake of the tragedy, but the Heavenly MCs of Street Knowledge have other plans. Inspired by a true story and influenced by Shakespeare's poetry, this is powerful stuff.

Selina Jones and Jayden Elijah head the cast as Azure and Deep. Elijah Cook plays Tone. Justice Ritchie plays Roshad, Aminita Francis plays SK Good, and Imani Yahshua plays SK Evil. Ryn Alleyne and Maxwell Chartey are Ensemble/Cover.
