Consumed description
Perfect when you like your drama extra-intense, you'll love Consumed.
Consumed hits the capital with a bang after its smash hit tour and a sell-out run at the 2025 Edinburgh Festival Fringe's Traverse Theatre. The play's London debut, we predict it is going to make an impact. This is the 2022 winner of the Women's Prize for Playwriting. It's by Karis Kelly. And it is super-dark.
This is a deeply disturbing, twisted comedy about a family's dysfunctional dynamics, covering big subjects like generational trauma, violence, suicide, substance abuse, familial abuse, and the enduring trauma suffered by generations of Irish and Northern Irish people throughout history.
The scene is a 90th birthday party nobody wants to be at. Four generations of Northern Irish women meet up for the first time in a while, in a house whose old ghosts won't stay quiet, where more than one skeleton rattles in the closet. As the evening goes on, things get ever-stranger.
Julia Dearden plays Eileen Gillespie, Caoimhe Farren plays Jenny O'Shea, Andrea Irvine is Gilly Gillespie and Muireann Ní Fhaogáin plays Muireann O'Shea. As well as writer Karis Kelly the creative team includes Katie Posner as Director, Lily Arnold Set and Costume Designer, Beth Duke Sound Designer and Composer, Guy Hoare Lighting Designer, and Jacob Sparrow Casting Director. The play is presented by Paines Plough, Park Theatre, and the Lyric Belfast.
Make it a night to remember with Consumed tickets, a harrowing black comedy rich in dark wit.
