Cinderella (La Cenerentola) description
This is Cinderella, but not as you know it. Welcome to La Centerentola!
Set in the present day, in London, this exciting new version of the beloved fairytale favourite delivers a brilliant re-imagining of Gioachino Rossini’s romantic opera classic. Welcome to Cinderella with a twist.
The plot? Cinderella is desperate to be seen and loved for the woman she really is, but it is proving a challenge. It's such hard work running around being a servant to two needy step-sisters. Then she meets the gorgeous Prince Don Ramiro, who changes everything. Charmed by her warmth and courage, it feels a lot like he could be her 'happily ever after'. Will it happen?
Your venue is the London Coliseum, a wholly owned subsidiary of English National Opera. There's fairy dust, pumpkins, mice, a glass slipper and a dress fit for a princess, all with a difference. The timeless score by Rossini is stunningly pretty, all effervescent and frothy, perfect for this beautiful comedy. Expect magical arias and extraordinary ensembles that complement the plot perfectly.
The heroine, Angelina, is portrayed by mezzo-soprano Deepa Johnny, while tenor Aaron Godfrey-Mayes plays Don Ramiro, marking both their debuts with ENO. Charles Rice plays Don Ramiro's valet Dandini, Simon Bailey plays Angelina’s stepfather Don Magnifico, and the ex-Harewood Artist David Ireland plays Alidoro. The fun is directed by International Opera Award-nominated director Julia Burbach and conducted by Yi-Chen Lin.
Book seats for this beautiful contemporary take on the fairytale Cinderella, an old story with a modern twist you'll love.
