This story goes right to the heart of childhood, but the classic themes are just as fascinating to grow-ups. Rags to riches just doesn't cover it. This is the ultimate fairy tale, a masterpiece of stunning production values that delivers that unforgettable classic moment, when Cinderella discards her daytime rags and dons the most beautiful ball gown on earth to become the mysterious belle of the handsome Prince’s Ball.
The action takes place at London's most famous theatre and it's set to make Christmas 2016 special, bringing the love story loved by millions to the stage for an unforgettable festive season. It's being tipped as a 'larger-than-life' production, and has been specially produced for the Palladium's generous stage.
The London Palladium is no stranger to massive yearly pantos, putting on some of the best ever legendary shows between 1948 and 1987, and attracting some of the most glittering stars of their times to play ever-popular roles. Julie Andrews and Sir Cliff Richard, plus the sadly-missed Peter Sellers, Cilla Black and Ronnie Corbett, have all played panto at the Palladium in the past.
The venue's last pantomime was Babes in the Wood, starring Dame Barbara Windsor, Cannon & Ball and Rod Hull and Emu. Now the traditional annual festive treat returns the Palladium to its enviable position as theatreland's festive cornerstone. Welcome back!
Who's in charge? Qdos Entertainment is the producer, and they're apparently honoured to be at the helm of the venue's return to iconic Christmas panto fun. They're the producers of massive theatreland hits Gypsy, The Bodyguard and Mrs Henderson Presents, so the signs are looking very good indeed. And – another treat - the multi-award-winning Andrew Wright is in charge of the choreography.
Some have described the event as a “breath-taking family extravaganza with glittering sets”. And the Daily Mail newspaper reports the producers saying it'll be a spectacular production, “stuffed” with stars and involving both a horse-drawn carriage and a flying sports car. Wow.
Cinderella is on stage from 9th December 2016 to 15th January 2017.
