CARE description
You'll love Care, a life affirming play rich in beautiful moments of joy.
The internationally acclaimed UK dramatist, author and film director Alexander Zeldin's wonderful Inequalities Trilogy (LOVE, The Confessions, The Other Place) delighted audiences. Now he's back in the capital to make his Young Vic debut with Care, a poignant look at the connection between loss and rebirth. The play is an adaptation of his Une Mort dans la Famille, which premiered in Paris during 2022, a moving piece of work exploring broken family bonds and the gorgeous moments of pure joy that light up life's hardships.
The story concerns a granny who has a fall that forces her to go into a care home full of lonely old people who just want to go home, her daughter, and her two pre-teen grandchildren. She never wanted to go into care but soon starts to see life with fresh eyes, experiencing piercingly lovely moments of beauty and connection, and ultimately realising what really matters. As it turns out, there's real happiness to be found in everyday life.
The Writer and Director is Alexander Zeldin (Beyond Caring, Love, A Death in the Family), the Set Designer is Rosanna Vize and the Costume Designer is Natasha Jenkins. Lighting Designer James Farncombe joins Sound Designer Josh Anio Grigg, Casting Director Jacob Sparrow and Costume Supervisor Caroline McCall, completing a brilliant creative team.
Grab yourself some Care tickets to see a masterpiece-in-the-making written by a brilliant chronicler of everyday pain and joy.
