Born With Teeth description
Kit Marlowe and Will Shakespeare collide in the brilliant Born With Teeth.
The Royal Shakespeare Company's Co-Artistic Director Daniel Evans directs Ncuti Gatwa (Doctor Who, Sex Education) and Edward Bluemel (Killing Eve, My Lady Jane) in a fiery play where two of England's finest playwrights – Shakespeare and Marlowe – are locked in a game of wit, words and power play.
Ncuti plays Christopher Marlowe and Blumel plays William Shakespeare, thrown together in perilous times. The year is 1591, England is a viper's nest of paranoia and conspiracies, and the two are forced into a creative union, meeting in the back room of a pub to joust with words. Their stage and battlefield is a table, and their weapon is genius. The rivals duel with words and ideas through three secret meetings, going back and forth as the pressure mounts. There's a deadline to meet, and they might just make it – if they could only stop arguing long enough to start writing their powerful new play cycle.
Born With Teeth comes from the American playwright Liz Duffy Adams, a darkly funny battle of wits and wills set against a time when spies hide around every corner, Queen Elizabeth the First is on her deathbed, and a single wrongly-placed word could see both men executed.
Co-produced by the RSC and Playful Productions, this critically acclaimed two-man play makes its UK premiere at Wyndhams Theatre. The design is by Joanna Scotcher, lighting design by Neil Austin, and casting by Charlotte Sutton.
Don't miss this thrilling fictional play about the relationship between two of the country's best-known literary icons.
