Body & Soul, from English National Ballet, is a powerful piece of work.

How do we decode our world? How do our bodies and minds respond and react to the human experience? Canadian choreographer and dancer Crystal Pite and dancer-choreographer Kameron N. Saunders have created a work that dives deep into the core of it all.

This is the UK premiere of Body and Soul (Part 1) by the amazing choreographer Crystal Pite, who first dreamed up the production for Paris Opera Ballet. It explores our response to bereavement and the conflicting impulses involved.

In a show of three parts, the dancers move to a voice speaking in French, which describes their actions. As the words repeat, loop and echo the duet swells and morphs to create mesmerising waves of movement across the stage. Intimate duets are set to spoken text, and the energy of the dancers is incredible. Think Pite's acclaimed Revisor, Emergence, and Figures in Extinction and you get the idea. It's extraordinary.

Kameron N. Saunders has worked as a commercial dancer for some of the world's best-known artists, including Taylor Swift and Chappell Roan. An award-winning choreographer whose pieces have been danced by Joffrey Ballet and Dallas Black Dance Theatre, this show offers a fresh choreographic voice from this world-class master of dance. The score comes from Harold Walker III and Brandon Finklea, performed to perfection by the English National Ballet Philharmonic Orchestra.
