Blue Man Group description
Blue Man Group brings its wordless blend of drumming, comedy and audience participation to the London Palladium.
Three bald, blue-faced characters who never say a word arrive on stage and set out to make sense of the world around them. Through original music, instruments built specially for the show and a series of comic encounters, they test, explore and play, often drawing members of the audience into the action. As the Blue Men do not speak, the show is carried entirely by rhythm, movement and visual humour, so it can be enjoyed whatever language you speak, and no two performances turn out quite the same.
The company was formed in New York in 1987 and opened its first full-length show at the Astor Place Theatre in 1991, beginning a run that lasted more than three decades. That production won an Obie Award in 1991 and the 1992 Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, and the group's first studio album, Audio, received a Grammy nomination for Best Pop Instrumental Album. London audiences first met the Blue Men during a residency at the New London Theatre from 2005 to 2007, and the group performed at the London Palladium in 2024. This visit is part of the Blue Man Group World Tour and pairs new material with established favourites, including the return of the "Rockstar", a multi-instrumentalist with vivid blue hair.
Blue Man Group was created by Chris Wink, Matt Goldman and Phil Stanton, three friends who began with street performances on Manhattan's Lower East Side before moving on to downtown clubs and then to the theatre. The company has been part of Cirque du Soleil since 2017.
The performers are not billed by name. On stage the Blue Men appear as three identical characters, joined by the "Rockstar" on a range of instruments.
For an evening of rhythm and comedy that needs no translation, book tickets for Blue Man Group at the London Palladium.
