Allegra Allegra Allegra Allegra

Allegra description

Music, laugh-out-loud comedy and Dame Maureen Lipman - Allegra is the perfect combination.

Allegra comes from the pen of the Olivier Award nominated playwright Peter Quilter, who gave us End of the Rainbow and Glorious! A fresh new musical comedy with a warm heart, it stars Maureen Lipman, the BAFTA-nominee actor and singer who thrilled audiences in The Pianist, Coronation Street, Carry on Columbus, See How They Run, Oklahoma, Educating Rita and a whole lot more.

The story goes like this. Lively Allegra, played by Lipman, is a joyful woman, so joyous she bursts into song at the oddest times. She sings in shops, at home, while eating out and while walking down the street. But she doesn't always realise she's doing it. Sometimes the music stays safely inside her head, other times it escapes to cause chaos in the village. The police are fed up with being called out to quieten her down, and her brother and carer are at their wits end. Can they stop her loud, bewildering musical outbursts without destroying the enormous happiness that lights up her life?

This touching comedy is set to gorgeous show tunes and filled with beautiful dance. It explores what can happen when our minds begin to disappear, ultimately telling an uplifting story about family, memory, and finding joy even when times are hard.

The fun is directed and choreographed by Stephen Mear. The Set and Costume Designer is Justin Williams,

the Lighting Designer is Samuel Biondolillo and the Sound Designer is Russell Ditchfield. Casting comes from casting director Rob Kelly. As well as Dame Maureen Lipman, we have a cast including John Middleton as Allegra's brother Ronan, Elizabeth Bower as her carer Anna, and Bailey Patrick as Officer Rogers. Plus two covers: Helen Goldwyn and Gareth Radcliffe.
