Funny and moving, After Sunday explores how four people survive a dehumanising system.

Bush Writers’ Group alum Sophia Griffin has created a 'searing' exploration of four people whose lives intertwine as they battle their way to a brighter future. This is a world premiere production, directed by Belgrade Theatre Artistic Director Corey Campbell (Romeo and Juliet, Fighting Irish, Big Aunty).

You'll meet Ty, Leroy and Daniel, who have signed up for Caribbean cooking sessions run by their Occupational Therapist, Naomi. She has faith in the healing power of great food, determined to fill her lessons with warm memories of home-cooked family Sunday dinners, inspiring her pupils to talk and share. But this is a secure hospital, a place where too much thinking, ruminating and remembering can send you into a spin.

On Sundays, the facility is transformed with wonderful cooking smells. Together, the men and their therapist set off on a challenging journey of self-discovery where tempers and emotions catch fire. As the kitchen gets hotter, so do the uncomfortable truths the group is forced to face about who they are, and what they did to be sent to the hospital. There's actually live cooking on stage to add to the realism, making it an unforgettable sensory experience.

Sophia Griffin is a writer and theatre-maker who is fascinated by character-driven stories, exploring themes of family, culture and the impact of absence. She wrote her first solo show while on Birmingham REP’s Foundry programme, a play called F*ckboys. Director Corey Campbell is Creative Director at the Belgrade Theatre.
