A Midsummer Night's Dream: Globe Theatre description
A Midsummer Night's Dream, William Shakespeare's beloved comedy, lands at The Globe.
A vibrant new production awaits you with A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Globe Theatre, a classic treat for summer. The perfect venue to experience Shakespeare's magic, the Globe opened in 1599 as a unique open-air theatre connecting actors and audience members like never before. Renovated and reconstructed several times since, the most recent reconstruction was completed in 1997.
The plot? In the wonderful midsummer world, the gap between reality and magic closes. We're taken to the night before a royal wedding, where a company of amateur performers is practising a play for the big day. Everything is possible in this strange, suspended place and time where excited lovers run through the moonlit forest, meeting playful spirits along the way. Spells go wrong, surprising transformations occur, and the night is full of mischief and chaos. What happens when the sun rises? Come along and see.
For 28th June only, during London Climate Action Week, the Globe Theatre turns the lights out. By whisking the audience back 400 years, they're planning to find out how far they can take the idea of a low-energy theatre production. Guided by the daylight, this live experiment in storytelling and sustainability is an interactive one-off. What a thrill.
Directed by Emily Lim (Brighter Still, The Odyssey), the creative team includes Composer Jim Fortune, Costume Designer Fly Davis, Set Designer Aldo Vázquez and Casting Director Juliet Horsley CDG.
