One of the great, generous-hearted and ingenious comedies of the English language, Oliver Goldsmith's She Stoops to Conquer offers a celebration of chaos, courtship and the dysfunctional family.
Hardcastle, a man of substance, looks forward to acquainting his daughter Kate with his old pal's son Charles Marlow with a view to marriage. But thanks to playboy trickster Tony Lumpkin, Marlow mistakes his potential father-in-law for an innkeeper, and his aspiring bride-to-be for the local barmaid. The good news is that while Marlow can barely speak to a woman of quality and class, he's a charmer with those from the lower classes. And so, as Hardcastle's indignation to Marlow's behaviour intensifies, Miss Hardcastle's appreciation for her misguided suitor soars.
This light-hearted comedy has an ensemble cast of experienced actors including Steve Pemberton (The League of Gentleman), Katherine Kelly (Coronation Street), Sophie Thompson (Eastenders, Harry Potter), Harry Hadden-Paton (Waking the Dead, La Vie en Rose), Cush Jumbo (Torchwood, The Inbetweeners Movie) and more.
