Pure Imagination description

You might not think you know the work of Leslie Bricusse. But he's one of the most prolific and well loved film and musical theatre songwriters of our time.

Whether writing alone or forming magical partnerships, his music will strike an immediate and powerful chord of recognition, a shock of pleasure... in fact countless little shocks of pleasure, one after the other. If you watch TV, love musical theatre and enjoy films, it's like meeting an old friend. You'll know his tunes inside out and upside down, bone deep.

Bricusse often wrote music alone, but just as often he'd partner up with someone equally talented. Our very own Anthony Newley plus Henry Mancini, John Williams and John Barry have all fallen under the great man's spell. Which is shy he's a double Oscar and Grammy Award winner, and why his work has touched all of us in one way or another.

This is a man who has composed more than a thousand songs. He's written either the book, the music or the lyrics for more than forty musical movies, shows and plays over a glittering six decade musical career. And, as you can imagine, his work has thrilled, touched and inspired literally millions of us over the past sixty years.

Leslie Bricusse has attracted ten Oscar nominations and nine Grammy awards. He's been nominated for four Tony awards and won eight Ivor Novello awards. His composing career kicked off when he was at university and it was there that he collaborated on, co-wrote, directed and even performed in his first musical shows. Called Out of the Blue and Lady at the Wheel, they both enjoyed West End transfers, revealing early on just how talented Bricusse was.

Now to the event itself. It's as heart-warming as it is uplifting, a performance studded generously with an endless stream of gorgeous songs including What Kind Of Fool Am I?, If I Ruled The World, Talk To The Animals, Le Jazz Hot, Feeling Good, Goldfinger and a whole lot more.

The St James Theatre, a popular fringe venue set in Victoria, hosts the show between 24th September and 17th October 2015, and the show opens officially on 29th September.

Danielle Tarento is the producer and direction comes from the talented Tony Award nominee Christopher Renshaw. Michael England directs the music and the remainder of the cast and creative talent will be announced soon.
