How To Hold Your Breath description

Perfect for anyone aged 14 upwards, Zinnie Harris's new play is set to be a real big hitter. The marvellous Maxine Peake is returning to the stage to perform How to Hold Your Breath, which opened at London's famous Royal Court theatre on 4th February 2015.

The action kicks off with a seemingly innocent one night stand. But the wide-ranging, far-reaching story is far from intimate, exploring massive subjects like the past and present bravely and boldly.

The theatre's artistic director Vicky Featherstone directs the production to perfection as two sisters, Dana (played by Maxine Peake) and Jasmine find out the true cost of our proudly-held western principles in this wonderfully twisted emotional mining expedition into the way Europeans live.

This is a brand new play. So what can you expect from the enormously talented Zinnie Harris? She writes for the prestigious National Theatre of Scotland and has created works for the National Theatre, London, the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal Court theatre. Her best known works include Midwinter, Further than the Furthest Thing, The Chain Play and Solstice. She also writes for TV, most recently working on the script for the hit BBC TV series 'Spooks'.

The play takes to the stage at the Jerwood Theatre, Downstairs at the Royal Court. Design is by Chloe Lamford, lighting comes courtesy of Paule Constable. The music is written by Stuart Earl and the movement is by Ann Yee.

Why see it? “Because we live in Europe. Because nothing really bad happens. The worst is a bit of an inconvenience. Perhaps not such a good mini break. But really in the grand scheme of life, not so bad.
