Horrible Histories - Barmy Britain Part 3 description

This is the latest West End premiere in the Horrible Histories series, an ongoing stage comedy success that's already set to become a West End classic. The show is turning out to be extremely popular, especially with youngsters, and this - the third in the series - is funnier and more horrible than ever. This is history... but not as we know it. It's the very best of British history with all the nastiest, creepiest, most sick-making and fun bits left in.

Head for the Garrick Theatre this summer and experience the sequel to the smash theatre hits Barmy Britain Parts 1 and 2, fresh from the highly talented and ridiculously funny folk at Birmingham Stage Company. The third instalment in our nation's eccentric past features a seriously eccentric line-up of crazy characters and rude rulers from our brilliantly barmy past.

Writers Terry Deary and Neal Foster are responsible for the funniest show in town, including a very special sketch starring the barmiest of barmy kings, King John, marking a serious occasion - the 800th anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta.

You'll find yourself partying with the puritans and fanning the flames of excitement with true tales from the Great Fire of London. King Charles comes in for a battering too, as does Admiral Nelson, he of Nelson's column. If he knew what was on the cards he'd probably giggle in his grave.

The Duke of Wellington doesn't escape the fun-poking, nor do the famously uptight Victorians. And the First World War comes in for a hilarious pasting, too. All this is brought to sparkling life by the series' previous co-writer and director Neal Foster and Anthony Spargo, both of whom take to the stage to portray the crazy characters who helped make Britain famous.

Such fun! Whether you're an adult or a child you'll revel in this extremely special history lesson, which takes the mickey affectionately and intelligently to deliver more fun than you can shake a stick at.

What do the press say? They say really good things. The Daily Express, for example, proclaims, “Horrible Histories brings the bloody story of Britain throbbingly alive in this hilarious show from the excellent Birmingham Stage Company. Bloody, marvellous stuff!”. The Times says, “Is this any way for children to learn about history? Too right it is! If lessons were always like this, kids would be queuing up at the school gates every morning. Be thrilled!”. And the Daily Mail calls it “As gleefully vulgar as a Roman poo stick! It's perfectly horrid and my daughter loved it!
