Bloodshot description

Bloodshot comes from the pen of the talented Douglas Post, whose subtle and intelligent thrillers have much more depth and texture than your run-of-the-mill tale of murder and mayhem.

When the failing photographer Derek discovers someone has dropped a mystery envelope on his doormat, all hell lets loose. It’s from a complete stranger, asking him to shoot secret photos of a beautiful woman on her walks through Holland Park. The job is incredibly well paid, but events soon take a shocking turn. Hopelessly entangled and irresistibly curious, Derek’s adventure leads him to the seedy fleshpots of Soho, meeting a series of dodgy characters who might or might not have anything to do with the woman’s murder. In a play that looks deep inside the human heart, Derek’s outlook on life, love, the universe and everything changes forever.

Here’s what Fringe Review says about this splendid, fast-paced one man noir:

“Douglas Post’s excellent new play is soaked in nostalgia, and delivers the kind of thrills you rarely get in the theatre these days. Almost cinematic in its narrative and style, Patrick Sandford’s production has you reaching for the popcorn that isn’t there and gripping the knee of the person beside you regardless of whether or not you know them.

Robin Don’s design is wonderful – at first glance simplistic but increasingly brimming with cunning surprises which aid and support Simon Slater’s narration, making the scene transitions seamless and exhilarating.

The lighting by David W Kidd is so good you might miss it - an odd comment, perhaps, but in a piece of this genre, with the lighting vital to maintaining and building the atmosphere, Kidd’s effects are often subtle and moody, often dramatic and shocking. He works wonders.”
