After an acclaimed five-week run at the National Theatre’s Dorfman Theatre, Beginning announces a West End Transfer to the Ambassadors Theatre, Justine Mitchell and Sam Troughton reprising their roles. It’s the end of another party and the early hours of the morning. Danny is the last one standing and Laura is the host among the mess. One more drink for the road? Every relationship starts somewhere – is this the Beginning for these two? A tender story about taking a chance and those first moments where you put your heart on the line, the story resonates with audience members everywhere.
Beginning played the National Theatre over five weeks in the autumn 2017 and was a resounding critical success. Only weeks after the run, the production has announced its transfer to the West End, as the first show opening at the Ambassadors Theatre just after the 15-year run of Stompcomes to a close.Beginning opens on 15 January 2018 and will currently play for eight weeks.
Starring in this tender two-hander are Justine Mitchell and Sam Troughton, both reprising their roles from the original production. Justine’s recent stage appearances include Bodies at the Royal Court, The Resistible Rise of Arturo Uiat the Donmar Warehouse and The Plough and the Stars at the National Theatre. Sam comes from a theatrical family, as the grandson of former Doctor Who actor Patrick Troughton.
Director Polly Findlay joins the actors as David Eldridge’s newly written script transfers across the river. Polly is an Olivier Award-winning director (Best Entertainment show in 2012 with Derren Brown: Svengali) and has recently directed shows at the Donmar Warehouse, HOME and The Barbican. As a playwright, David’s works have been performed at a number of major new writing institutions in the UK, with many of them transferring to both the West End and Broadway.
It was a smash hit for the Autumn season and promises to be another successful transfer for the National Theatre in 2018. Perhaps this is the Beginning of something special once again!
