It proved a massive hit in Australia, adapted and directed by Sydney Theatre Company’s Artistic Director Kip Williams. Now Oscar Wilde’s only novel, the gothic horror The Picture of Dorian Gray, which scandalised critics when first published in 1891, is due to make a UK premiere in January 2024 at The Theatre Royal Haymarket.
The critically acclaimed Aussie actor Sarah Snook stars in this ground-breaking adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s classic tale, playing all 26 roles supported by extraordinary video and on-stage cameras in a contemporary tour de force designed to delight. The Picture of Dorian Gray will begin performances on Tuesday 23rd January 2024, running until 13th April.
Sarah Snook returns to the West End after a ‘searing’ debut in Matthew Warchus’ dazzling 2016 production of The Master Builder, acting opposite Ralph Fiennes. A highly respected performer, she played the marvellous ‘Shiv’ in HBO’s all-time classic TV series Succession, a series that blew the minds of millions and earned her worldwide acclaim along with a Golden Globe Award, and a Critics Choice Award, two Primetime Emmy Award nominations, and a Screen Actors Guild Award.
Snook has also netted two Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards for her work in film and television, plus a nomination for the Logie Award for most outstanding actress for 2015’s The Beautiful and a Helpmann Award nomination for best female actor in a play for Sydney Theatre Company’s Saint Joan.
