Uncle Vanya tickets – It’s sparkling stuff!
Uncle Vanya is Chekhov's re-working of an earlier play, released a decade earlier and called The Wood Demon. Uncle Vanya premiered in Moscow during 1899 and was an instant hit. Now, the very talented Christopher Hampton has adapted Chekhov’s classic to create a production that’s tipped to thrill audiences at London’s Vaudeville theatre.
Uncle Vanya is a compelling combination of wit and humour, earthy, intelligent and quite brilliantly funny. In a tragi-comic exploration of the human condition, Chekov’s masterful observational piece tells the complex tale of an elderly professor and his cohorts, set against the splendour of a magnificent country estate. It’s rich and eloquent, a classic that retains its appeal across the decades.
When the owner of the estate and his second wife Elena make a visit, two friends, Vanya and Astrov, fall madly in love with her. Sonya adores Astrov, and she is distressed by the fact that he has fallen under the gorgeous Elena’s spell. The four main protagonists are fascinated by their own feelings, their past, the estate, their long and passionately held ideals and each other. But life is a minefield of trials and tribulations, and they struggle to control their emotions as life transpires to make things difficult.
When the estate is under threat, due to be sold by the elderly owner, things come to a head. Vanya ad Sonya live for the place – they’ll be lost without it, as well as homeless…
The language is delicious. And you’ll find yourself enthralled by the characters, fascinated by the way times change but the roots of human emotion remain the same. Book your cheap Uncle Vanya tickets with us now and treat yourself to a quality classic with an enduring appeal, beautifully staged and a real treat for the senses.
